Gray Striped Dress Refashion!

So I think I can officially say that this is one of my favorite refashions yet! I wish the lighting was better and could do it justice!

I showed you the before dress last week when I was stumped.

I ended up noticing that Joann’s was having some patterns on sale over the weekend so I browsed all of McCall’s, Butterick, and Vogue and found this gem.

McCall’s 6331 –

I modified the bodice to eliminate the dart because I didn’t want to worry about the stripes not lining up. I also just used the back as a guide because I wanted to keep the button down back style from the original dress. I kept the original skirt just took in the sides a smidge and replaced the elastic.

So here’s the original oversized monster. I picked it up a long time ago from St. Vincent’s for $3. So even with buying the pattern at $1.99 the whole dress still cost just about 5 bucks!!

I may have to try the romper version of this pattern for some of my summer sewing. Yay!

Have you been doing any summer sewing yet?

I bought that pattern today, too! I’m going to make the romper. I LOVE your refashion! I never would have looked at that shapeless frock and thought it could end up being so cute. You did a really great job.

Random – your blog is blocked by my office filter as being “adult”. Isn’t that weird? I don’t think you post any porn!

This is looking so much better than any of the versions on the pattern envelope – the stripes really emphasise the neckline detail! I think it looks great, well done!

  3. did you separate the skirt part from the bodice and re-cut it or cut the dress as intact? Just wondering, the hows. It looks really great!

  4. Angie says:

The first thing I did was separate the skirt from the bodice because I wanted it to sit at my natural waist instead of my thighs haha. then I cut the bodice and lastly reattached the top and skirt.
