Week/end Update

This week I worked like a dog. I can’t say that I enjoy being a real adult yet. When does this happen??

I drank too much coffee and got too little sleep! I suppose that’s life? or is it?

I’ve been trying to do some research on finding a balance between work and home, what works or doesn’t work for you?

Other than working I’ve been trying hard to keep busy… some days are definitely harder than others when it comes to singlehood. Staying occupied with my little goals seems to be my only saving grace!

On another note my lovely sis is a featured blogger on Tumblr for her silly blog about teaching. You must check it out here!

A recap of last week’s goals

  1. Do a craft project other than sewing. I used some old music I had lying around from a previous project and some butchers twine to make this pretty window decoration. This would work wonderfully with some pretty scrapbook paper as well! I adore sewing but it was nice to do something creative that didn’t involve my sewing machine.
  2. Create a new interactive blog feature! I already started the Pick My Project idea and I will also be introducing another idea on Monday.
  3. Try a new look. I bought me some red lipstick and used my hot rollers. I want to strive for a more glamorous day to day look. It totally made my jeans and tee look way more put together! This week’s goals
  1. Read the book “Happiness Project”. I have heard such great things about the book and I must read it for myself!
  2. Eat breakfast everyday. One of my 23 before 24 goals is to take better care of myself and I am consistently slacking on the eating well part. What do you like to nom on to start your day?
  3. Learn to thread my serger; The only time I thread it from scratch it ended in a horrifying disaster which included my cat getting wound up in about 10 yards of thread from 4 spools ugh.

Don’t forget to add your 2 cents on the Pick My Project poll!

Okay, some of those may be rhetorical questions but I’ll give you my experiences.

I’m 41 and I still don’t much like being an adult. I didn’t like being a kid either, so that might just be me. I prefer “adult” because I get to make choices. I wish I could be a student for life because that seems to be when I do the best.

I have found that the secret to staying healthy is sleep. I find I can be exposed to all kinds of nasty germs and won’t get sick provided I’m getting enough sleep (for me that is about 9 hours a night). So, as long as you don’t have insomnia, make sure you have healthy sleep habits and stick with them.

I had balance and then I lost it. Right now I’m working 7 days a week. 5 I get paid for (I’m a teacher) the other two I don’t get paid for. Part of it is part of teaching but most of it is because I work for horrible people who make it impossible for us to have balance. I’m hoping that changes too. My goal is to balance self-care with work with relationships (I’m married and have a step-son who is 17). It is not easy when the work part is all out of whack.

I love your heart decorations. They look terrific. I’ll go check out your sister’s blog (and I’ll tell her you sent me.) As a teacher, I’m sure she’ll have me laughing my head off.

I like beingan adult because of the freedom to make my own choices too :) sometimes there are money struggles or relationship pains but I much prefer it over “child” or “student”.
I’m 23 too, thankfully balancing work + life isn’t too hard because I have a Monday to Friday, 7:00-3:30 office job. It’s balancing life + hobbies that gets me! I want to sew but I also want to hang out with my husband, and see my parents occasionally. I have started riding home from work when I can (instead of catching a train), it’s a nice 30 minutes just to myself and it also fits in with trying to take care of myself better. For breakfast, muesli & yogurt & tinned fruit is delicious.
Also I love the curled hair photo! It suits your blonde hair & face structure, reminds me of Marilyn Monroe a bit. I only stumbled upon your blog a few weeks ago but I enjoy reading your posts and seeing the cool things you make :)

i’ve not long discovered your blog and i really enjoy it. i admire your style, your sewing talents, and i’m beginning to really hear your voice and feel like i’m having a conversation with you! um, that’s not meant to be creepy :-)
i recently turned 40 and the lead up to it was much worse than the actual day! but i’m still wondering if i have meanign/purpose to my life – sometimes it feels like i’m living to work, not working to live.
on a practical note – eat oats for breakfast, whether as porridge or just with some milk and zapped in the microwave for a minute or so. i add all sorts of nuts and fruits too but essentially oats are a great healthy and filling way to start your day.

oh, Serger threading! the thought makes me shiver!
And it ALWAYS happens when your half way through a project! It would be usefull to know how to thread one, so i hope it is easy to learn =P
I love weetbix. or just plain yougurt,!

    Good luck for goal acheiving!

I like smoothies in the morning. They’re easy to make, healthy and just filling enough (because I don’t like to ‘eat’ in the morning). work- life… well, the old story. for my part, i work for a living and don’t live to work. so i keep my jobs to the bare minimum. if i work more than 2-3 days a week, i do it for longer and then take half a year off or so. has worked the best so far.
    love your hearts! ;o)

i know a quick and easy way to do the 1940′s glam wave with a curling iron. If you want to know how I’ll send you a diagram or something. It takes less than ten minutes on long hair, so it should be super fast at your length.

  7. Angie says:

of course I want to know!

I’ve been reading your blog for years but never commented. But I had to, because WE HAVE THE SAME GLASSES! I’ve been regretting I had bought them because it was in a tiny store with not much choice, but they do look sure cute on your head!

    that story about your cat just made me laugh out loud! poor, poor cat! i hope she’s fine again. (;
i once saw the book “happiness project” in the book store and i really liked it, but didn’t buy it (i have so many books already), so it would be great if you could tell us how you liked it!
one of my new year’s goals was to wear make-up (and try things with my hair) more often and so far, i’m doing quite well. it feels so different and so nice!
that project with the window decoration is lovely.

good luck with this week’s goals! i love this feature already.
