Refashion Destashin’

If you’ve been reading my blog for a long time you probably know that I used to do lots and lots of refashions – changing oversized thrift store finds into new garments.

I haven’t been doing many of these lately but I still have quite a stash of to be refashioned items and this weekend I took inventory of my pile.

Shirts – 8
Dresses -18
Pants – 2
Rompers – 1
Sweaters – 3
Skirts – 2

Total – 34

This year I have been trying to pare my wardrobe down to only unique and versatile items. So now I need to figure out which of these 34 items can be successfully transformed into wardrobe staples and which have got to hit the road.

Are you guilty of projects piling up like me? I sure hope I’m not the only one.

Don’t worry Angie you are not the only one. My stash of ‘to be refashioned’ is a lot more than 34 pieces though!
Perhaps we should start a ‘refashioners anonymous’?

I have a healthy stash of “gonna get to that” guilt. About 2 bags full. Just thinking about it makes me feel sheepish. I’m with you on the wardrobe honing. I’ve tossed or donated 5 bags full in the last few months… I still can’t tell the difference when I’m looking for an outfit!

sooo glad, I am not the only one! I am now making the effort of not getting anything else until the pile has dissapeared (or at least it fits in a very small box) :)

Can I just say…. yes, absolutely, totally and yup! It got so bad I had to make some stricter rules about what I take home and what I can keep. “Aimee, you are never going to wear this color, toss it!” I *did* manage to get through three of them recently though. You just need to get into a rhythm…. :)

You are definitely not the only one.. I keep buying thrift store items that I can refashion into something cute, and seem to forget that I still have a bunch of clothes waiting for me to alter them.. Oh well, one day they will be worn with pride!

Me too! Sigh sometimes I feel like a hopeless hoarder sewist. Lately I’ve been inspired to donate/get rid of all the garments that don’t make me look great, and build a capsule wardrobe. Looking forward to that!

i don’t understand the part about hitting the road. what does that mean? does that mean leaving? like in not having?
just do a few for now and put the rest away. in no time at all you’ll want them. after all, you liked them enough to buy them, right? everything i see in that pile looks like it has potential, except maybe the beige (beige is not a color).

You’re not the only one, for sure! I have a room where I pile 34 and 34 and 34 clothes… And, when I have to sew, I go there and choose by colour or by weight, It’s like going to the shop and buying, for the money going away!!
