Day 1 – I made this dress from Simplicity 7072. I love the simple retro shape with a fun gingham print! I didn’t like the darts so I used a different pattern in order to make princess seams which created a much nicer fit!
The orange gingham dress goes perfect with the new apron I whipped up with an aqua checked fabric from my stash.
Day 2 – Altered yet another $1 thrifted dress
Looks quite a bit better after losing almost a couple feet off the hem.
Day 3 – Cut this size 18 dress in half and attached the skirt to a simple black tank. I got the dress from Goodwill for a buck and it even has the original tag for $84.
I want to do something with the top half of this dress as its like the softest cotton ever! I also have plans for the bottom half of the tank I used to update the dress.
Tomorrow I’ll be posting the next three days of Self-Stitched September and so on…
Thanks for your patience with my MIA posting. I just started my last semester of nursing school and things are a bit stressed.

I absolutely love the orange gingham dress! (Saw it on Sew Retro). It looks fantastic on you — and it does look really cute with the apron.
So cute! Love the orange gingham dress… and your shoes…
That color orange looks fantastic on you! It really makes your skin and hair look great! The dress is super cute and simple too. Love it. Great work. You’ve got such vision for thrifted things – Awesome!
Oh the peer pressure. My favorite is also the orange one. It looks really nice on you and it is a color I don’t see very often on people, you must be one of the few that can wear this shade. I personally could never wear orange without looking ill.
You have been really busy with all of these! I also love the gingham dress, its fantastic, great job!
Loving the gingham dress! Your face in the Before picture of the third dress cracks me up, it’s a total ‘HAHA LOOK AT THIIIIIS’ face
Glad to see you back
Bravo excellent refashions you are the best! =D
that last dress you made it’s absolutely beautiful!
Hi! I just discovered your blog thanks to sew retro. I love your dress and that apron is just so cute and fits perfect with your dress!
Very goood idea altering your dresses!
Yea!! You are back! The orange dress looks fantastic, and even cuter with the apron. As for the other dress, I can’t believe someone would consider paying $84 for that dress. I wouldn’t pay $8. =)
I learned to sew from my mom, but have pretty much taught myself since about 4th grade.
oh my god i LOVE the orange gingham dress!!!! i want one too!!!
Oh! I adore the gingham shift dress. The color look fabulous on you!
Really love the orange gingham dress, the colour is so unusual. I would totally want one for myself, but unfort orange and me are not good friends
You look great in it tho!
The gingham dress is adorable! I agree with you that princess seams give a nicer fit – those a-line darted patterns never looks right to me. I love your dress refashions – you have a great sense of style!
Angie, you are a master at refashioning. I enjoy your creations. I’ve added you to my blog roll
