Works In Progress Wednesday

Here’s some actually new projects I am in the midst of…

Simplicity 1235 – Oh yes I am making the dress version with the full skirt!! In fact Im going to down right copy it.

Because what girl doesn’t dream of having the perfect red dress to pull out of the closet on a dreary day?? Well at least one… me!

So far I have cut it all out. I found a semi decent red cotton. I’m not thrilled about it but we will see how it goes. I definitely wanted a cotton or light weight fabric so I can actually wear this as a day dress. I ended up also cutting a flat lining because the cotton is pretty thin. Here what I got so far.

I have all the darts marked and pinned along with marking all my notches and such. I think I’m going to try using horsehair braid in the hem for a full skirted look.

The other item I’m working on is transforming this number.

Im using Butterick 5486 to make this oversized skirt I got for a dollar into a little polka dot dress. The middle view is the version I’m making.

My version may end up shorter as I simply don’t have that much yardage but I’m excited.

What are you working on these days??

I love the red dress pattern! Can’t wait to see it all made up!

  2. I have a rodeo skirt that I have to make from an old, long, thrifted skirt, that’s about it, I’d love and try to make a dress using a vintage pattern but I’m kind of scared that it will be too hard for me, I’m a beginner at sewing, Thanks for sharing those pictures of you dress cut, it looks less scary to make, I should really give it a try.

  3. I love the red dress you are making! I’m making a couple of knit tops and a skirt this week and i want to start on a pink dress too. x

This is so cute! Do you plan to wear a petticoat with it? Undergarments are the key to an authentic vintage look! I can’t wait to see the finished project!
